How to Reset a Ford Tire Pressure Light

mechanic checking tire pressure

Your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is the system of your Ford vehicle that will alert you if your tires are over-inflated or under-inflated. After you’ve filled your tires up with the proper amount of air, you may still see your TPMS light flashing while on the Plymouth roads. If you see your Ford tire pressure light flashing even after you fill up your tires, then you probably just need to reset the light. Learn how to reset your Ford TPMS light with the service team at Morrie's Minnetonka Ford. We’ll show you step-by-step how to perform a Ford TPMS reset from your your very own garage.

Ford Tire Pressue Light Reset Step by Step

Normally, your Ford tire pressure light should turn off after you’ve filled up the tires with air. However, if you see your light flashing while on the Maple Grove roads even after you’ve filled your tires with the proper amount of air, then you may just need to reset your Ford TPMS light. Here’s how to perform a Ford TPMS reset:

  1. Drive at 50+ mph for about 10 minutes. This should cause the sensor to reset the next time you start your Ford.
  2. Turn the vehicle off, and turn the key to the “on” position without starting the car.
  3. Locate the TPMS reset button. It’s usually beneath the steering wheel, but you can find its location in your owner’s manual.
  4. Hold down the TPMS reset button until the tire pressure light flashes three times.
  5. After the light has flashed three times, release the button.
  6. Start up your Ford, and wait about 20 minutes for the sensor to refresh.
  7. Inflate one of your tires to 3 PSI over the recommended amount.
  8. Then, deflate them completely.
  9. Do this for all of your tires, even the spare tire.
  10. After you’ve deflated all of the tires, inflate them all back to the proper amount of pressure.
  11. Turn off your car, and disconnect the the positive battery cable with a wrench.
  12. Turn the car on, and honk the horn for about three seconds. This should discharge any power that may still be stored in your car.
  13. Reconnect the battery.

This should reset your Ford TPMS light, but if it doesn’t, then schedule service at Morrie's Minnetonka Ford to get it fixed.
